Frank Sinatra — The Main Event (1974)
August 24, 2008
After retiring from the screen and stage in 1971, Sinatra made a triumphant return in 1974. Here he is at Madison Square Garden at a very youthful 59. The voice had lost a little, but he always made up for it with showmanship and style.

T Rex — Bang A Gong & Cosmic Dancer
August 24, 2008

In the early 1970′s, Marc Bolan & T. Rex were huge in jolly olde England. As the forerunners of glam music, they hit paydirt with the release of 1971′s Electric Warrior. They were never able to duplicate their success in the US, but did have a number 1 single here in 1972, Bang A Gong (Get It On). Bolan was known to have visions throughout his life of dying in a fiery car crash. Well, guess what happened. Yep, you guessed it. He died driving home from a bar in 1977 (he apparently didn’t know how to drive) on September 15. Here they are in our continuing Midnight Sprecial series from 1972 with Bang A Gong:
Here’s another, Cosmic Dancer performed live:
Here he is with David Bowie, a mere 9 days before his death:
