The Grateful Dead released their live double album – “Skull and Roses” – on this date in 1971. Most of the album was recorded at New York’s Fillmore East in April. They had wanted to call it “Skullfu&k”, Warner Brothers weren’t agreeable.
Here they are playing “Big Railroad Blues” while in Denmark.

The Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Soul Stew Revival will keep their tradition alive with a return to the fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta for New Year’s Eve. Last year’s show was recognized with a Jammy Nomination for “Live Performance of the Year.” This year, they will be joined by very special guests the Sun Ra Arkestra. The legendary intergalactic big band consists of fifteen musicians blending theater, ritual and music, led by founding member Marshall Allen. The Arkestra has been pushing the boundaries of music for over half a century and this promises to be unlike any previous Derek Trucks or Susan Tedeschi New Year’s Eve show.
