We are but a mere 8 days away from Halloween. I know that all you need to do these days to be scared is to watch the news, but here’s a home that really gets into the Halloween spirit. I know that I would have really been spooked by this house as a little kid. My wife would still be spooked by it now.

Well, it looks like Axl and gang are going to release Chinese Democracy this year after all. RS reports:

Radio listeners were rewarded for their years of patience this morning when rock stations across the country added Guns n’ Roses’ official new single “Chinese Democracy” to their playlists. (A few hours later, the band confirmed news of the album’s November 23rd Best Buy arrival). The track marks the first time a Chinese Democracy song has been officially released to radio, as opposed to leaked. As promised, Axl Rose announces his return with a scream before the full guitar assault shows up. The song is comparable to the leaked versions that have emerged, but even on an Internet stream the sound quality is clearly superior. So was it worth the wait? Listen here and decide for yourself.

Lefsetz Letter:

Conventional wisdom is the entertainment business is recession-proof.  If you believe that, you probably believe Sarah Palin is our country’s foremost energy expert.

The movie business was hurt by the last recession.  But at least their prices are cheap.  Ours are stratospheric.

We’ve got high prices, a dearth of superstar talent and a financial meltdown.  Do you really think the concert business is going to emerge unscathed

Yes, superstars will sell every ticket.  Then again, Madonna is not selling out, even though her handlers won’t say so.  You can get tickets for gigs.  People e-mail me the promotions.  And if Madonna can’t sell out, what are the odds for Joe Wannabe Band?

Historically the concert industry has been one of rugged individualism.  Run by independent acts and their agents.  To a great degree, this is still true.  But along the way, there was a great consolidation in concert promoters.  Instead of regional fiefdoms, we have the international giants and JAM and…some more indies.  It is time for all concert promoters to unite and tell the acts TICKET PRICES MUST COME DOWN! 38 Years Ago Today…

Per Runaway Dinosaur:

This is a complete recording of the late show Derek and the Dominos played as headliners over Ballin’ Jack and Humble Pie at the Fillmore East (10/23/1970).

After months touring with Delaney and Bonnie and collaborating with them on his first solo album, Clapton took the nucleus of his band – Whitlock, Radle and Gordon – and formed Derek and the Dominos. By 1970, Clapton had amassed an impressive catalogue on which to draw, and these musicians jelled in a way that certainly brought out the best in the material. For many fans, this quartet was the most consistently exciting group Clapton ever toured with, and these concerts feature some of the most passionate live playing of his career.

Check out Scotty B’s article at Hidden Track on the Umph:

As the members of Chicago-based sextet Umphrey’s McGee left the stage on Saturday night at the Electric Factory they all had looks on bliss and satisfaction on their faces. I can’t really blame them, as they had just finished an exceptional run of nine outrageous shows in ten days throughout the northeast. The concerts I saw displayed the best of their improvisational skills, setlist debauchery and a light show that led many jaws to drop to the floor night after night. Excuse the fluffery, but these guys deserve it. (Continue Reading…)
