Bruce Springsteen — A Ghoulish Treat
October 31, 2008
As a ghoulish Halloween treat to loyal fans, Bruce Springsteen is offering a free audio download and streaming peek at the video for the previously unheard track “A Night with the Jersey Devil” on his website, www.brucespringsteen.net . Both audio and video will be available on the site from 12:01am Friday, October 31 until 11:59pm Sunday, November 2. The creepy video for “A Night with the Jersey Devil” was directed by long-time Springsteen visual-collaborator Thom Zimny.
Springsteen posted the following note on brucespringsteen.net:
“Dear Friends and Fans,
If you grew up in Central or South Jersey you grew up with the ‘Jersey Devil’. Here’s a little musical Halloween treat. Have fun!
Bruce Springsteen”

Umphrey’s McGee — “Let The Wild Games Begin…”
October 31, 2008
From Jambands.com:
Umphrey’s McGee guitarist Jake Cinninger will take command of the Sirius Jam On airwaves on Halloween. Cinninger will DJ at the station from 6 PM through 12 AM EST this Friday, offering “his favorite tricks and treats, like some live Umphrey’s McGee and other favorites.” In addition, the guitarist promises to play some of his favorite vinyl records from the ‘70s.
Last night, Umphrey’s McGee got into the Halloween spirit a bit earlier teasing an incredible number of songs at San Diego, CA’s House of Blues. Throughout the night, the sextet teased no less than Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon,” Pink Floyd’s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” and Phish’s “Bathtub Gin,” as well as Led Zeppelin’s “Over the Hills,” “Kashmir” and “The Ocean.” The group also offered a creative mashup of Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” and Herbie Hancock’s “The Trailer.” Umphrey’s McGee will officially celebrate Halloween at San Francisco’s The Warfield this Friday.
Does anyone miss the good old days when we could bank on Phish playing a Halloween show, displaying their chops and their take on a legendary album? Well, I do. Maybe ’09 will bring us another musical costume. Time will tell and we shall see. If they do play another Halloween show, what album would you like to see them cover? Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti? Frank Zappa’s Joe’s Garage? Neutral Milk Hotel’s In An Aeroplane Over The Sea? Leave us a comment with your desired album.
We’ve decided to put together some videos of Halloween’s past. Here they are in 1994 playing “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”:
Next up is “Born Under Punches” from 1996′s show in Atlanta where the band covered The Talking Heads’ Remain In Light.
Here’s “Lonesome Cowboy Bill” from 1998′s performance of the Velvet Underground’s Loaded:
